MICHELIN GUIDE published SEOUL restaurants since few years ago.
As a KOREAN, we are not interested inMICHELIN GUIDE because their interest only focus on the luxury, or contemporary food. Also, we realized that some business relation also might influence the rating. Bottom line, they covers only 0.001% of restaurants in KOREA.
But, we have no choice but to accept MICHELIN GUIDE is the best source for finding the contemporary KOREAN food restaurants.
What is CONTEMPORARY HANSIK?
Under our definition, CONTEMPORARY HANSIK has the following characteristics.
– It’s base should be authentic KOREAN, which means the sauce – such as soy sauce, chilly paste (GOCHUJANG) – are KOREAN.
– Commonly, the famous chef (actually, just featured on TV several times) is in charge of the kitchen and some restaurants are owned by them.
– The visuality is the most important.
– Component wise, the menu sequence looks like a course menu. I.e., Each menu consists of appetizer, main dishes,…rice & soup.
The prices of menu are dependent on the number of main dishes. I.e., If you order the higher priced set menu, the restaurant will bring more main dishes before you have rice & soup. If you want to upgrade the menu, you just need to top up the difference when you reach there.
We cannot tell you what kind of food you will have…because our recommend restaurant changes the ingredient of main dishes every week.
But, even though you have some restriction such as vegetarian, you don’t need to worry as long as you let us know. (Then, we will inform the restaurant in advance.)
This doesn’t include the sightseeing. This is the separate tour for your meal including the round-trip transfer.
But, you can request to combine this tour with your sightseeing.
Because this price include the transfer, the car size will be dependent on the number of guests. For example, for 4 people, we will send 8-seater van, but, for 10 people, you will use 15-seater van by the driver.
Basically, we will send English speaking driver. But, please understand that we will send Korean speaking driver if the meal arrangement is very simple.
For this menu, we chose the restaurant under the following criteria.
– The restaurant should provide enough quantity & quality food.
– The taste is essential, but, the food presentation (e.g., plating) is also important.
– The restaurant should be clean and the atmosphere should be trendy, or very authentic KOREAN.
